JESUS -  THE DECIDING FACTOR

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

It was the last afternoon of our deer hunt and we still had a few tags to fill.  The three hunters that were still out were enjoying a beautiful sunny afternoon.  I was back at camp taking care of skinning and caping chores and waiting until dark to pick up the others.  One of the other guides suddenly said, you better get out and get the guys back here.  It was mid-afternoon so I was confused.  Then I looked to the west and saw a black wall of dust and corn stalks stretching from the clouds to the ground.  Shear winds were carrying anything light enough to be picked up and it was coming fast.  I got my hunters out just before getting rocked by a massive storm that toppled trees and damaged buildings

A hunting guide, at times, literally has the life of a hunter in his hands.  There are those times when a call needs to be made that could decide between life and death.  Our clients look to us to be the deciding factor in the face of a dangerous situation.

A few years ago some friends had a TV show called the Twin Factor.  At the end of each show they challenge the viewers to "Be the Factor".  At times in life we need to practice being the deciding factor to those around us, especially within our families.  To be that "factor" we need to point others to God as the true deciding factor.

Webster defines deciding as;
"conclusive, critical, crucial, decisive, determining, influential, prime, principal, significant."

We each face a time in our lives where we decide to follow or not to follow Christ.  After that Christ becomes our deciding factor.  When we come to a crossroads or a major decision the factor that needs to direct our decision making has to be Christ.  If we allow anything else to be at the forefront we will eventually fall into a sinful situation.

As we move forward in life we must make sure that we are a factor to those around us.  But in our lives, in our hearts, make sure that Christ is our deciding factor.

In Psalms 32:8 tells us that God will be our deciding factor...
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you." (Psalms 32:8)

If we look to God in times of questions, He will never steer us wrong.  No decision of any consequence should ever be made without looking to Him.  When we take it on ourselves to make important decisions we will fail.  Give it all to God and then listen carefully for His direction.

He'll never steer us wrong.
